Yesterday was the first International Yoga Day and was marked by yoga being practiced all over the world, including Dehli, the capital of India, where more than 35,000 people attended the mass yoga session on Rajpath in the capital.

The current prime minister of India, Narendra Modhi, had lobbied the United Nations for this International Day of Yoga, and his wish was granted by UN General Assembly on December 11, 2014. Modhi attended yesterday’s mass yoga event in Delhi and took part in the yoga session itself, as did other government ministers.
India’s Defense Ministry said that soldiers on the Siachen Glacier, the world’s highest battleground in the Himalayas, and naval cadets on navy ships at sea also participated in the Yoga Day events.
In other parts of the world events took place such as New York’s Times Square, where 30,000 took part, Alexandra Palace in London, Almaty in Kazakhstan, under the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Beijing in China, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, and many more places.
