Inside Yoga 83 (9/9/13)

Ever wondered how some people keep going? As we get older and parts start to wear out it can feel like an uphill climb – to maintain the energy levels we had when younger.

So here are a couple of video clips that shows us how yoga can help us keep going and defy the ageing process. The videos show two men, one in apparently 101 years old while the other is 121 years old.

There are stories of yogis (someone who practices yoga) who live well beyond 100 years old, and some more than 200 years old. And in China, there is the story of Li Ching-Yuen, who was a Chinese herbalist that supposedly lived to be over 256 years old. He died May 6, 1933 and he claimed to be born in 1736, while disputed records suggest 1677. That puts his life span at something between 197 and 256 years Pretty long either way.

I don’t expect many of us aspire to living that long, but being able to live healthily and happily as for a long time has its merits, say up to 84 or more? I was once told that the number 84 in some parts of Asia is symbolic of infinity – so why not aim for infinity.

It’s not just exercise that helps, the yogic exercises help our body, mind and breath operate efficiently, but what makes the difference is the holistic approach to our life – taking into account our diet, our state of mind, our work and so forth. Everything in moderation is the key.

Have a look at the video clips to see these two old yogis – it reminds me, not to give up!

You can see the clips at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQKe0GxpSmk  This man s reputedly 121 year old now – the video says 117 so it must be a a few years old, or perhaps h is no longer with us? Whether he lived beyond 117 is not so important, because see what he could do at 117 years old!

The other clip is about a yogi who was 101 when this clip was posted: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nvu1HHQnobc
