A cross-party group of MPs and peers said on last week that stressed out teachers, prison officers and nurses should be trained in ancient techniques of mindfulness meditation.

This recent inquiry found that public servants may be less likely to burn out if they use mindfulness techniques to control anxiety and depression.

The Guardian reported last week: “An eight-month inquiry by the all-party group on mindfulness found frontline public servants could be less likely to fall ill with stress, or quit altogether, if they engage in the increasingly popular meditation practice which involves increasing awareness of the present moment to help control anxiety and depression.”

It’s good to see that those at the heart of government have are looking into how meditation can help people at work and hopefully it will actually turn into action and not end up filed as just another report.

As a yoga teacher who uses mindfulness meditation in the way I teach, it is always good to see doors beginning to open in areas that perhaps one assumes will never open. Progress.

Part of my teaching work includes going into places of work to teach staff yoga classes and meditation (sometimes simply called Stress Reduction).
